This is a book on high-altitude trekking in the magnificent Himalayan range in Himachal Pradesh, India, and the flora and fauna that inhabit it. It is also much more. About the Author
Avay Shukla belongs to the Indian Administrative Service and has served in Himachal Pradesh for 30 years. He is president of the Himachal Pradesh Trekking Association, and a founder member of the Ecotourism Society of India. He is an unapologetic conservationist and has quite often found this clashing with his role as a government servant, a trait portrayed honestly in this book. His passion for nature has seen him tramping up and down the remotest areas of this mountain state for the last 20 years. His detailed account of some of the major and more difficult treks is unique in that he brings to bear on these journeys his administrative insights and experience, which adds depth and perspective to his observations and narrative.

An Inspiring and Informative Book for Budding Trekkers and Explorers visiting Himachal Himalayas

The Book titled "The Trails Less Travelled: Trekking the Himachal Himalayas", written by a former bureaucrat Avay Shukla, takes us to different trekking routes in Himachal Pradesh. As the title of the book suggests, many of these trails are non-conventional to regular Himalayan trekkers. This book includes as many as twelve trekking routes covering mainly five districts in Himachal Pradesh, namely, Shimla, Kinnaur, Kullu, Lahaul & Spiti, and Kangra districts. While describing his group as well as individual trekking and camping experiences spanning more than two decades, Shukla shares several thrilling anecdotes and local legends. The author took the paths alongside the high-altitude and snow-capped lakes, riverbeds, or national parks. In the book, the author describes several indigenous floras and faunas, unique to the particular localities. In this book, the author includes several photographs and hand sketches whenever necessary. His trekking trails also include picturesque Dhela Thatch in the heart of the Great Himalayan National Park (GHNP) in Kullu district. GHNP was declared a Natural UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2014. This is an inspiring and informative book for the budding trekkers and the explorers visiting Himachal Himalayas.
