About the Author:

He manages Vancouver, Canada for a world-wide language travel agency, placing international clients with his staff of +/-20 qualified private tutors.
While also hosting private clients for this language agency, Paul developed the method which he presents for us in his book. He also includes 18 highly creative and original short stories to complete the book's program for everyone's enjoyment.

Learning Chinese with this method—Highly Satisfied

Although I originally purchased this book to help me with my first English tutoring job, I ended up loving the method so much that I decided to use it to continue my Chinese language studies. I found a native speaker and explained the method. We had a great time and I saw definite improvements in my ability to carry on conversations. There's something about learning from your own mistakes that really gets things to stick. I tell everyone I know that's learning a language or teaching one about the methods set out in this book. They're that good. This is coming from someone who's been studying Mandarin for 6 years on his own using various methods.
Tip on learning Chinese with this method:
1) Writing is probably one of the hardest things to learn about Chinese. I use Pages on my iPad and a Chinese keyboard to write my daily journal. It's easy to add Pinyin above characters I don't recognize. I continue to practice hand writing on my own, separate from the class so as not to slow down progress on spoken language. During classes, my teacher also uses Pages to write down any spoken answers to questions that need "perfecting". I keep the original sentence intact, and he writes the corrected sentence underneath in red.
2) Grammar books are still good. But mainly for reference. Have a digital copy so you can quickly search for a pattern that you'll like to learn. When you're out and about and you think: "I wonder how you would say..." jot that down and bring it up during the tutoring session.
3) Listen to programs like ChinesePod often. Incorporate new learnings into your daily journal so you can start using it right away. You'll also have a chance to discuss with your teacher.

Best Possible Book For Learning Languages

This book has proven to be an exceptional hit with staff at my college, who have all added it to the books they use while teaching English Conversation to adult student groups.
It's method has also been used by those staff who teach other languages, specifically Spanish and French, since Paul's language learning method in this book which is presented in English, can be used to learn how to speak any language, by simply translating the text into any language and animating conversation in that language through the series of topics in Part One of the book.
The 'Points-to-Perfect' analysis of Spoken English in Part Two clarifies completely every item of pronunciation required for speakers of any language to finally eliminate their accent in their Spoken English.
No matter what books you currently use to teach languages or to learn languages, add this book to your collection and it will be complete for sure.

Excellent resource for home tutoring 1:1 or small groups

This is a great resource for tutors who need help getting started with a functional English language curriculum. The book is based on the premise that our favourite subject is ourselves. A carefully scaffolded syllabus broadens the student's spoken vocabulary without bogging down in tedious grammar. Students learn the natural way - the way a child acquires language is also the way younger and older adults learn. For 1:1 or very small groups, this book will save the teacher a ton of work in looking for resources and lesson topics.
