Tattooed alpha male bounty hunters, fast classic cars, and finding love

Gaining Ground picks up right where Shifting Gears left off so you MUST read book 1 first. This is a story filled with bounty hunters, alpha males with tattoos, and fast classic cars... *sigh* What's not to love about that, right? But is also a story about finding love, looking past first impressions and jumping to conclusions, making sacrifices, and defining what family means to you.
Niki and Holt's life was crazy before, but things are about to get even more out of control. Niki is completely unprepared to have the foundation of her world rocked in a big way and it seems as though she doesn't have time to absorb one new piece of information before the next surprise is dumped on her. Holt's prior knowledge of some of this information infuriates Niki, and she gives him no option to explain before running from him yet again. By the time she works things out in her head, Holt is a bit wary of her reactions and involving her in his world, so he starts to distance himself from her in order to protect her. In his mind, it is the best thing to do regardless what she may think.
This story has plenty of suspense, drama, steam and action to go around! It was wonderful to see Niki work her way out of her shell of fear to finally find her backbone that was missing in action up to this point. Throw in a few wild car chases and some gunfire and that backbone was definitely tested, but she came out the other side a stronger person for it. Holt experiences an emotional journey himself as he works through the chaos surrounding them. He opens up to Niki about his past and has to decide if he is really strong enough to walk away from her or if he can find a way to adjust his lifestyle to have everything he wants while still doing what he loves. He thrives on the thrill of the hunt but it exposes anyone he cares about to a whole lot of danger.
Oh, did I mention that Holt has a group of fellow badasses that he works closely with? Holy hot alpha males alert! His partner Jax plays a big part in the story as he protects Niki and her best friend Cass when Holt is not around, and I definitely want to know more about him in the future. Add in newcomers Finn, Cole and Ryder, and the hotness level is through the roof when they are all in the same room. Speaking of Cass, I am seriously hoping she gets her own story soon as well after the mess she creates for herself during this story!
Ms. Hayut did not experience any sort of sophomore slump at all- in fact I thought Gaining Ground was even better than Shifting Gears. The story was paced well, and although I did feel the need to huff in frustration at my Kindle a few times along the way for the actions of either Holt or Niki, it just meant I was experiencing the emotions the author was trying to convey. I really enjoyed the book overall and read it in just a few hours. Some wonderful new characters were introduced over the course of the story expanding the group and its extended family of sorts, and I am looking forward to seeing more of all of them in the future.

Get ready for some action ladies!!

Following up from the heightened events that took place in bk1, Gaining Ground picks up where Shifting Gears left off. I had so many questions as to how Holt and Niki’s relationship would be salvaged after that big cliffy revelation, but, Ms. Hayut answered all of my inquiries in an adept fashion.
Going forward, things aren’t easy squeezy at all. With secrets, lies, and unexpected twists and turn of events set into mention, Niki is aptly hesitant and apprehensive where all the chips with Holt lay.
It’s a bit of ups and downs in this read as now Niki has to make some hard decisions and gather up the strength she never knew she had. Not to mention, Holt has his own demons to answer to.
Get ready for some action ladies, Gaining Ground pulls full steam ahead as tensions and stakes are risen and hearts are put on the line!!

This is a MUST READ!!! I recommend reading Shifting Gears first as this story ties into it and you will be lost majorly if not, Trust me. It's wonderful, exciting, and earth moving great. The thrill of the story is not lost and it just keeps going and going with all the twist and turns that happen every few pages you can't help but fall in love with the story. Hell I know I did. Take a chance on Niki and Holt and what's to come. I know you wont regret it. Hell if anything you'll be like me dying for more, craving more.
